Steve Tyrell “I’ll Take Romance”

Steve Tyrell is the wedding singer. It is therefore fitting that his modern day take on love be entitled I’ll Take Romance. The 12 track album finds Steve and his band backed by string orchestra performing standards like “That’s All,” “Taking a Chance On Love,” Cole Porter’s “All of You”, Jerome Kern’s “The Way You Look Tonight” and the title track featuring guest vocals by Judith Hill. Also included are R&B classics, such as Etta James hits “At Last” and “Trust In Me;” Sam Cooke’s “(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons;” and Little Willie John’s “Talk to Me.”

Steve’s wedding singer calling card came as a result of his role singing “The Way You Look Tonight” in the movie Father of the Bride starring Steve Martin. After being invited back to sing additional songs in Father of the Bride II, and with Martin’s encouragement, Tyrell began his recording career for Atlantic Records. While “I’ll Take Romance” is Steve’s Concord debut, it is his 8th release, 7 of which have made it into the top 5 on Billboard’s Jazz chart. Recently his recording of “The Way You Look Tonight” was used by President Clinton for the first dance at daughter Chelsea’s wedding This past summer when Nick Lachey (98 Degrees) married Vanessa Minnillo, Steve was invited to sing “A Kiss to Build a Dream On”.
