This seven piece band from Port Elizabeth are following in the footsteps of the iconic Jazz Ministers, who in the 1970’s defined the sound of Township Jazz. This group of young jazz enthusiasts have done justice to a genre that was fast becoming extinct. At least for what we know and remember true Township jazz to be!
The 14-track album ‘Rear Window’ is mixture of contemporary jazz with afro-soul. “It is a reflection of the township traditional songs as well as modern changes in society.” Songs such as “Sakhile” and “Unonkala” are typical township jazz classics from the early 60s to late 70’s. Other tracks such as “All in your eyes” signify the emerging tradition of Afro-Soul.
Take Note have also shared the stage with a number of national artists including DJ Cleo and Sliq Angel. The group recently performed with jazz legend Retsie Pule in Uitenhage.
